FAQs
Jane is a platform that helps homeowners make climate upgrades with ease and confidence. Once you upload your home’s information, Jane automatically gives you the best options for climate upgrades to your home (i.e. solar, heating, and weatherization). It is built by experts and designed to save you the time and stress of making your home climate-friendly on your own.
Absolutely! We offer human support in a few ways. First, our energy advisors are always reachable over email. Second, after getting your climate plan, we offer a 30-minute coaching session to review the plan with you. Lastly, if a tech-enabled solution like our Jane platform isn’t exactly right for you, we also offer a more hands-on energy coaching practice.
Today, our platform is best fit for single-family homes. If your home doesn’t match that description, but you’re still keen on getting a climate plan through our Jane platform, shoot us a note at hello@jane.energy.
Our climate plans cover all upgrades that could make your home more climate friendly, from weatherizing to heat pumps to solar. For each upgrade, we’ll provide educational content on the upgrade, ballpark costs for the project, all the rebates and incentives you qualify for, and install timelines and considerations to keep in mind. After that, you should have a climate plan tailor-made for your home, with everything you need to know. And if after seeing your climate plan, you want to get that heat pump or solar project, we offer a “checkout” button to get quotes from top contractors in your area.
Yes! We research all the rebates and incentives you qualify for: those offered by the IRA, your state, and your utilities. We’ll summarize those rebates, any fine print that comes with them, and do the math on how they’ll impact your project costs.
We have a thorough approach for choosing the contractors we recommend. We start by looking at all the usual markers you might look for: certifications from the manufacturer, online reviews, testimonials from local organizations. Then, we take it a step further and personally contact dozens of contractors specializing in the type of project you're pursuing within your city. This hands-on approach allows us to gauge professionalism, reliability, and depth of experience firsthand. Essentially, we do the legwork for you, sparing you the hassle of reaching out to multiple contractors, and incorporate our findings into our tailored contractor recommendations.
Building Jane, it was important to us to make climate plans as easy and accessible as possible. With our Jane platform, we pair technology and industry best practices to create smarter climate plans. And because we’re using tech and automation to do that, we can keep our climate plans totally free – no strings attached.
Jane only makes money if you choose to move forward with a project. If after seeing your climate plan, you want to get that heat pump or solar project, and want Jane to automate the next steps (e.g. getting quotes from contractors, etc), we just ask for a commission fee, and take care of the rest. This model allows us to remain neutral on contractors and technologies, since we don’t make any money from them.
We ask for 2 uploads in order to create your climate plan. The first is your inspection report, and we use that for details about your home’s energy systems and some of the other relevant features about your home (e.g. the envelope/insulation, state of the roof).
The second upload is to connect your utility account or upload a bill, and we use that to include your gas/electric rates in our upgrade designs and recommendations. Here, we also offer the option to search and highlight cheaper or more climate-friendly rates your utility offers (you’d be surprised at the savings!)
We only use your data to create your climate plan, and nothing else. We don’t share your data or reuse it for any other purpose. And if after seeing your climate plan, you want to delete your data from our Jane platform, we make it easy to delete your account.
Our platform (and most climate-friendly upgrading today) is focused on owners. That said, if you’re a renter whose landlord pays the utilities, or a renter who just needs some help, feel free to contact us at hello@jane.energy.
We love it when users are actually friends or family members helping someone make their home more climate friendly. In those cases, our Jane platform works the same way: upload the data for the home, and we’ll create the climate plan just the same.
